Industrial Hygiene

Industrial Hygiene is the ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control environmental factors that may arise in or from the workplace. Potential hazards to human health can be found in nearly every type of work environment. These hazards may cause sickness, impaired health, or significant discomfort among workers or citizens of the community. The control of health hazards is a major factor that impacts the sustainability of businesses. The recognition and evaluation of these hazards are essential to managing processes at the workplace. Developing and implementing effective control measures to eliminate or reduce exposure to these hazards is the primary objective of the entire industrial hygiene effort.

We provide smart solutions in the area of occupational / industrial hygiene services. Some of the areas we work in are as follows:

• Program Development and Implementation - Some of the common areas of program development include: exposure monitoring, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, confined space entry, WHMIS, TDG and Ergonomics

• Contaminant Monitoring – Some of the contaminants we identify and manage are:volatile organic compounds, asbestos, silica, respirable and inhalable particulate matter, formaldehyde, ozone, lead, cadmium, chromium and other heavy metals. Other common contaminants include benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes. We also deal with biological contaminants like mould, fungi, bacteria, etc.

Gases are often an important part of the environmental risk identification process. These include: carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s, PNA’s), oxygen and combustible atmospheres, mercury, organophosphates (pesticides)

Other substances of concern are acids and caustics, sulphur dioxide and other products of combustion.
